Rachel Balia, GlobalFingerprints Site Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was attending a devotional time at Tandala Hospital, when their meeting was interrupted by shouting. Someone had found an abandoned baby covered in human waste in the pit of an outhouse.
Hospital staff leaped into action, cleaning up the baby and checking all her vital signs. She had multiple injuries and would eventually lose an eye due to infection. But she was alive.
Of course, this raised the question as to what they would do with the child. Amazingly, one of the women attending the devotional time that day had been unable to conceive and had been praying for a child. God granted her wish and gave the baby a home at the same time.
As if God wanted to make very clear that He was at work in the midst of this tragedy, the passage being taught during the devotional was from Psalm 113 including these words.
Psalm 113:7-9 (NLT)
He lifts the poor from the dust
and the needy from the garbage dump.
8 He sets them among princes,
even the princes of his own people!
9 He gives the childless woman a family,
making her a happy mother.
Only God could remedy two heartbreaking situations in one fell swoop.
This child will be sponsored through GlobalFingerprints to make sure her physical and spiritual needs will be met going forward.
They named her, fittingly, Grace.
Praise be to God for his wonderful work. Belgium Congo MK
